WMS and Sony KDL-46XBR9

Post by surfingsmurf »

Hi all,

Been searching for the right media server and I'm hoping this will work. Anyhow, I'm trying to get my Sony to recognize and play my video library. Most of my movies are in avi and MP4 format. I'm told the XBR9 only recognized MPEG2 codec

MUSIC - no issue.. :D
PHOTO

- able to see thumbnails, but unable to view picture (error - image cannot be viewed)
- able to see thumbnails and view picture only in transcoding mode.. 8-)

MOVIE

- unable to view any movies in normal or transcoding mode (error - there are no items to display)

In addition, I'm unable to load movie, photo, and music in the folder list using network drive or UNC path

I appreciate any suggestions or recommendations on settings to make it work.

Clear embedded photo file support.

With vob-files is the problem?

If the server runs as a service Windows, the System user group should have the right to access network resources or the need to install the service to start under the user who has rights to access network resources.

Thank you for replying,

PHOTO - now works without transcoding.... :P
MOVIE

1. movies are not showing in normal mode (error - there are no items to display)
2. movies are showing in transcoding mode, but can't play getting (error - there are no items to display)
3. load vob file and the same as #2 (I had to clear the masks exclude files in order to see in folder list)

Also, I'm now able to load movies, music, and photo using UNC path... :P

Thanks again

Is there an example file of small size (5-10MB), which is played with a USB or other media server ?
Perhaps the problem with MIME-type or profile of DLNA (Settings - Media-Resources - File Types).

I have a small video file, which was recorded using my iPhone 3GS that I can use. I have not found a media server that would play video on my XBR9 yet. I'm told by Sony technical support that the XBR9 would only play video in MPEG2-codec format.

Vob-files are played through usb? perhaps they should rename to mpeg or mpg
The file name should be, for example VTS_01_1.vob (mpg, mpeg).
Possible examples of video files are on CD, which was with a TV.

I copy a single vob file from a DVD and rename to test.mpeg and copied to a USB and plug it into the Sony XBR9 USB port to play and it works... :P I copy the same file to my movie library and loaded in the WMS and it's not showing up in the folder list...

Settings-Media-resources-File types
Try for mpg and vob-files to set DLNA-profile MPEG_PS_NTSC

I added a new file type as you suggeested and now I'm able to play the test.mpeg video on my XBR9... :P :P.

Also this is the only video shows up in the normal mode. The rest of my movies show up in transcoding mode, but just can't play. How do I make it, so the rest of my movies that are in AVI, MOV and MP4 format to show up in normal mode and play on my XBR9. I noticed AVI, MP4, and MOV do not have a DLNA-profile listed.

Thanks for your support

UPDATE - I changed the DLNA profile for file type "mpg" from MPEG_PS_PAL to MPEG_PS_NTSC and now I'm able to see and play all my movies in all format (i.e. AVI, MP4).... :P . Except playing AVI movie seems to freeze every few seconds... . Playing MPG movie has no issue at all...
