Video on W4500. Very frustrated.

Post by toby »

Cheers

I'm probably missing out some essential feature in the program...

How do I freaking play movies? :)
I can access both the Photo and Music folders on my Sony W4500, but how do I access, lets say, the "Wildlife in HD.wmv" that comes along with the program?
- Should there be a new "Movies"-folder or something on the TV?
- Do I need to do a new digital scan with my antenna/DVB-T

I'm lost.

What should i do in order to watch a movie. I've tried googleing everything.

Thanks in advance.

To add to toby's thread...I have a Sony KDL46W5100 which is also documented by SONY as DLNA compliant. Like him I have had no issue with Wild Media Server and MP3 & photo streaming, but can't get video to work. Whoever posted the DLNA test certificate for the W4500 do they know if the W5100 was tested/certified and if so what the results were?

Like Toby, I've spent a bunch of time monkeying around with the media server setup to get movies to stream, but no luck. I'm starting to wonder if it's a DLNA specification disconnect between the server and the TV.

Thanks in advance.

Television system NTSC: American TV standard
DLNA: MPEG2, LPCM, MP3, and JPEG.
You have chosen the type of device configuration "Sony TV NTSC ((DLNA), 16: 9, 720x406)" ?

Thanks for the reply Eugene. I did find another thread referencing the new device config in v.72 and it works with the W5100.

Hi all,

I just got my Sony Bravia W5100 two weeks ago and have spent the last two weeks trying to find the perfect media server to work properly. Until now, the only one I could find that had transcoding abilities is PlayOn. But the transcoding abilities in that program must be limiting because I wasn't able to use rewind/ff functions without issues. After trying Wild Media Server with the "Sony TV NTSC (DLNA, 16:9, 720x406)" device setting, it seems to work great with video and I'm able to rewind as well as fast forward (provding the computer has already transcoded the portion to which I'm forwarding to). Excellent software!

I do have a question though on the video quality. Is there any loss of quality via the transcoding going from xvid to mpeg2? The quality appears fine when I'm sitting on the couch but I do notice some pixelation when getting close to the TV. Not sure if this is due to loss of quality in the transcoding or simply the original picture being stretched to the size of the TV.

Thanks,
Max

The quality affects video bitrate (Settings-Transcoder-Codecs, frame). And of course the quality may deteriorate during stretching frame.
