Blu ray folder

Post by Marin »

Hi Eugene,

can WMS play Blue ray when all contents are on HDD? I've copied one blu ray to HDD, and added that folder to WMS, but it can only see m2ts files, no menus etc. Also, some m2ts files won't play...what can I do? Make ISO of that folder or what?

Thanks in advance,
Eugene

The devices do not support working with the menu in this technology, only individual files. If the file does not play, then encode video or audio unsupported device - use Transcoding folder, may file has a special purpose - the menu.

Marin,

WMS cannot recreate the functionality of a Bluray disk played in a standalone player.
It will serve/stream/transcode the main feature of the iso/disk structure only.
Your playback device (WDTV, Popcorn, PS3 etc) determines what <if any> disk menus or features will be available, not the media server...

Hope that clears things up.

Cheers,

brettich,

thanks for your answer. I have LG BD390, which works perfectly with WMS, but unfortunately, there is no way that it will recognize folder on HDD as Blu ray disc. Please, let someone correct me if I'm wrong :-)

Best regards,

It is not surprising that the LG BD390 does not treat a ripped BluRay folder structure as if it were a virtual disk with full menus, extra feature etc... Not many network players can, the Popcorn C200 and A.C Ryan HD are the only devices "reported" to have that ability...

I am curious about your player;
1.) Does the LG BD390 properly pass DTS-HD audio from a 1:1 m2ts file through to your receiver? -most players will only support the core DTS track -without the HD.
2.) Can the LG handle basic DVD ISO's? and display menus? (never mind the BluRay titles).

Cheers,

Hi Marin,

Pozdrav!!!

I also have an LG BD390. Can you tell me which settings you changed in Wild Media Server to get it working best with your BD390? You use the Playstation 3 profile?

Hvala lijepa...

@brettich,

I'll answer your questions on friday, right now I'm not at home.

@Petar,

I am using profile for WDTV. Eugene recommends those settings for LG BD390.

brettich,

I have Denon AVR-1709 receiver connected to LG BD390, and DTS audio works great (when playing blu ray movies with DTS-HD audio track)...still, I must try to play one DVD ISO file to see if menus are displayed OK.
