Some questions after lincensing my TV

Post by Visnet »

Hello,

Today I recieved my licence of WMS. I licensensed my TV.

WMS asked me to restart the server and I did. Restarting the server took 10 minutes or more? Why is this happening?
I have to say it has been for more then a week ago that I last restarted the server, so I cannot say for 100% it is because of adding the license. But the restart is way to slow. I removed all the internet TV channels, although I already had set the program not to scan during start. But this made no difference. Also removing all the podcasts from the catalog did not help.
A start or restart from the program with a catalog of maybe 70 movies is really taking this long now. What could be causing this?

Second:
I had a nice setup running during the trial period, the TV as a renderer and an app on my iPad as controller where I could select the movie to play on the TV.
But after adding the licence, the ipad can see the WMS server, but not browse it to start the movie on the TV.
I hope that it is not needed to add an licence for an controller too?

Thanks in advance

You can check the settings on the page Server. Check the list of network connections and devices.

1. For each media device requires its own license (activation code). If the device has a different connection types (wired and wireless) and you want to use both types of connections, that require different licenses (different Device Codes).

4. If you do not have enough trial period to test the program or if you have already bought a license and want to test it out with another device, you can apply by mail info@wildmediaserver.com for a free activation code on 15 days.

Eugene,

On the server tab there is only the TV in the list, nothing else (see image). So why it is slow I do not know.

On the license issue, I find it strange to have to pay for a controller? It is a controller app I am talking about, not a renderer.
In that situation I find it a bit funny, it just a remote controller it is not asking for streaming functionality at all. The streaming content is going to the TV, wich is registered. I only want to do the selection through the app (DMC from dixim).
To pay the same amount for dmc apps is a bit strange I think?

It may be necessary to choose network connection. I think the problem is or with some network connections or programs that control network operations.

For the server has no concept of the TV, the player or the controller. Only network device that accesses the server and must be licensed to handle its requests.

Eugene,

I added the network connection, it was only showing the IP of the PC running WMS while searching, so that is the one I selected. Restarted the server and it ran for again 10 minutes or so before showing the interface again. I was now also looking at the TV list and it took a long time before WMS disappeard from the list (stopping) and an equal time to show in the list again, started. So also stopping the server is slow I guess.
To be 100% sure I disabled the Windows Firewall, no luck, restarting still very slow.
When I reboot the PC, WMS starts with high speed, so a clean start seems to be good. What programs can be in the way here?
I have a webserver program running, but that has been running also during test.

To bad I did not realise that before buying. I assumed that the license was needed for each renderer and expected controllers would be left out as they are a remote controller. If I had realised this earlier I would have taken two licences at once as this is cheaper then buying them seperate.

Is there a way to get that extra license with the reduction price?

I think more information is needed. After which actions to restart the server is long.

Discounts only when purchasing multiple licenses.

6. You can buy multiple licenses and leave some in reserve, to get the activation codes later. In the field "Device Code" specify Reserved.

Eugene,

For the slow start, even just a stop and start without changes causes the delay. No changes in settings or library items. Scan on start is switched off.
After a fresh boot with automatic start of wms, the start is fast. An restart with no changes after this fresh start is slow again.
I removed an old installation of tversity to see if this program could be in the way, but no changes there. After the initial install of wms restart was fast. Programs I installed afterwards were VLC for internet tv and ac3convert (i hope the name is right).

For the license, I was hoping to find some understanding on making a wrong choice from a beginner. Bad luck, no ipad control then.

I recommend checking out the list of network connections in the system and the list of running programs. Slow stop or start Server ?

Eugene,

Both stopping and starting are slow, I noticed this on the TV. It takes a while (3/4 mins) before the WMS entry on the TV dissapears. After that it takes another 3/4 minutes to reappear.
Yesterday I noticed that the WMS entry on TV would come back after a while on TV, but on the PC it then still takes some time before the interface is available for moving around,

I do not know what to look for on the list of networks, I will add the current setting window to this post. I set this a few days ago, on your advice, just one interface(- the only one I have active BTW). I am guessing this is ok?

Eugene,

I have spend the weekend before last weekend (7/8 februari) searching for the delays in starting WMS. I really had no more ideas where to look for, so I decided to take the dive and reinstall the PC from scratch. I did this because there were a few more issues on my PC that did not feel right. PC is running more the WMS, also a home automation system and graphical software.

After reinstalling Windows I added all other primary software (including WMS) and rebuilded the library. Since then I have been running WMS and have been testing the start/stop of WMS. At first unregistered, since one week with registered device.

No problems so far!
So I guess there was some software on the old system that was blocking WMS. What software this could be, I have no clues so far.

Thanks for your help.
