MP4 - Playback

Post by adgen »

Hello,

after deciding to re-encode my video files into MP4 files for support a wider range of playback-clients, I came to this point to test my transcoded files on my Samsung TV (LE32B650). The server used WMS 0.73 version and my MP4-file contains an H.264 (AVC) and the audio-data is AAC 5.1 encoded.

The problem is, that my TV doesn'z support my mp4 file when I want to watch it with WMS. But it works, when I put that file onto my USB-Disk and play it directly from USB. I hope that the transcoding isn't here the problem because the TV understands the RAW-data.

Where is problem here, that my Samsung doesn'z support playback via WMS?

Thanks for help.

These files work with the PC Share Manager?

Hi Eugene,

I've tried PC Manager with my own files: Same result.

The funny thing is, I have another mp4 file with AAC encode audio and it works on WMS. Only my file make some trouble. I post the media information obtained from WMS.

Old MP4-File (works with WMS)

I guess, that something went wrong during merging of AVC (h264 encoded) video file with aac ancoded audio data into one mp4 file. I've tried serval programs (MeGui-Muxer, Yamb, mp4creator). All of those was not able to produce a mp4 file which is readable via DLNA on my TV.

I've read something about problems when using MP4 over DLNA. Do you have an idea?

Cheers.

Ok, I think the problem is the resolution of my MP4 file. As mentioned in this article (http://gxben.wordpress.com/2008/08/24/w ... l-so-much/) when the dimension exceeds 720×576, MP4 isn't a propper container format for DLNA any more. In this case MPEG-TS should be the right solution.

So I've muxed my video (h.264) and audio (ac3) data into *.m2ts file and test it with WMS. The result: My video file was not discard by my Samsung TV. But: I've had some problems with the sound. At the beginning I can hear some pieces of the soundtrack followed by silence :(.

Only with a TSMuxer profile, audio is working. But I would avoid Transcoding on the fly.
