Transcoding mkv files

Post by supergemini9000 »

Hi, first of all my compliments for this great tool.

I got problems when transcoding mkv files: some of them i'm able to whach on my tv, some other not.

I'm trying different profiles. Actually i'm using "Movies (primary)_1920x1080" that is the one able to trancode most of my files (avi, xvid etc..).
The things i'm trying to understand is why the behaviuor is different on apparentely equal files, with same codec video and audio.
For some of them i only listen to audio and i have no display. Some other my tv returns "media playback error" (or something).

Can you help me?

Thanks
Corrado

On the right-button mouse, you can perform a test transcoding, and check parameters the output file with a program like MediaInfo, you can specify directory transcoded files in Settings-Transcoder. I think the problem with the size of frame or parameters PAR, DAR, possible the frame size must be exactly 1280x720, 1920x1080.

Thanks for replying :)

I made transcoding test as per your suggest, for a mkv file i can listen but i'm not able to see the display, and it seems fine to me. See the attached files.

Here the mediainfo result on the file.mpg pruduced by the transcode test:

This test file is played through the USB or copied to the directory of media resources without transcoding?

These are the info (mediainfo) of the "Transcoding test" output file (Test_20a861f0ea1a28ffcd282b192660e918.mpg) as you suggest me to check.

I see that the resolution in the mpg file is just 1280x720 (from the original 1280x544)...

About the PAR and DAR you mentioned, i see that in the console (when testing) PAR 1:1 and DAR 40:17 detected in the original stream, and PAR 1:1 and DAR 16:9 in the output... maybe this means something?

Maybe not enough speed transcoding? Watch a movie starts?
There are problems with the smaller size of the transcoded file 720x406?

unfortunately it's not a problem of not enough speed in transcoding :(
I have bigger and with an higher bit rate files (mkv) that are able to be watched correctly.

I think it's something related to an incorrect upscaling to the display resolution (1920x1080), but i don't know it for sure.

Eugene, have you some other idea or tests i can make? (i've altready tried all the profiles, but without success).
Maybe some settings on the "media device", actually i'm using the "SONY TV (DLNA, 16:9, 1920x1080)" settings (even i have a Toshiba TV, but it's the more similar profile...).

Thanks in advace.

If possible, upload to file-sharing server, examples of the transcoded files, small size (30-100MB), which are played and not played.
