Sony 55EX505 - Transcoding Aspect Ratio

Post by naja »

Hi

I've been searching this forum for a while but all I found didn't help - or probably - I did something wrong.

When I'm streaming my file to the tv the picture is displayed correctly, but my tv doesnt support the sound format so i have to do transcoding.

When I do transcoding the sound is working but I got some problems with the picture. Aspect ratio is stretched (additional bars above and below the video). Transcoding setting: Movies (primary)

So I tried to set the Viodeo options to original but this does not work.

I tried several things in Transcoder -> Codec, frame because I thought that the bars have something to do with the "Active pad color" thing, but no change.

If anyone has an idea what to do help me please :)

Perhaps you are using custom settings media device ? (Settings-Server-A list of allowed client devices)

Right-click the you can perform test transcoding, if in call parameters is padleft, padcolor, then padding by color turned on.

Perhaps it should be. The bars in the original video or so played TV.

I tried to paint a picture of what I get.

left: the original movie how it should look like. thats also what I get when i do playback without transcoding

right: thats how it looks when I do transcoding

I don't understand where these additional bars come from.

If the original frame of 16:9 is placed in frame of 4:3, then the information about the film select Frame DVD 16:9

Transcoder > Frame Size (unit pixels) > Format 4:3

I have a Sony Bravia 40EX505 and I was also scratching my head over this one. The 4:3 workaround also works for me. I have also chosen “Sony TV (DLNA, 16:9, 1920x1080)” as Media Device.

I did some tests with a few movie trailers and found the following behavior.

Under “Transcoder” → “Codecs, frame” → “Frame size” I set:
16:9 and "Active pad color" checked → aspect ratio on the Sony TV always wrong
4:3 and "Active pad color" checked → aspect ratio on the Sony TV always correct (at least for all the videos I've tried)
16:9 and "Active pad color" unchecked → aspect ratio on the Sony TV always wrong
4:3 and "Active pad color" unchecked → aspect ratio on the Sony TV is correct for some videos, but wrong for some others

It doesn't make sense, but I am happy there is at least one setting that seems to work. :-)
