Install problem

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a computer with lots of power. I have a Sony KDL52 XBR9. Downloaded and installed WMS and it is running "Scanning media resource directories:", and it keeps hanging at the same Peter Gabriel "SO" folder everytime. Task Manager says not responding. I have about 113 GB of music, mostly .flac, some .ape, some mp3. Gets all the way into the "P"'s and stops! Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

P.S. I have an ethernet cable running from my ATT Uverse Residential Gateway to my TV. The TV finds Windows Media Player but no love with .flac. Installed Nero MediaHome 4 and the TV recognizes it, works with Elby Clone Drive with a mounted .iso DVD but no love for .flac. I refuse to transcode all my music for this! Thanks!

Settings-Media-resources-Scanning-Turn off "Read properties of new files when scanning".
Properties can be read later in the list of media resources on the right-button mouse (it works for selected rows)

Thanks Eugene,
I can now see all my files on the TV. Feeling kind of stupid! Can't really figure out how to make this work...I have to load a transcoding profile?
When I'm at the TV and I navigate to a song file, it says "Music file cannot be played". Do I have to highlight all music files in WMS and transcode them first? Not sure I understand. Thanks for your help.

Ok, some more info for you...in WMS-Settings-Media Device-Type=Sony TV (DLNA, 16:9, 1920x1080). Down further in Embedded File Support-Music=MP3. So, I guess WMS has to transcode .flac to mp3? If I use Transcoding Profile Music-FLAC-LPMC, Sony won't play? Needs to be Music-FLAC-MP3? Please forgive my confusion. Maybe if I try VLC-MP3? I don't have VLC on my computer.

Also, in Settings-Transcoder the window for Directory Temporary Files is empty...do I need to specify a location?

Thanks Eugene!

For KDL52 XBR9 Device type: Sony TV NTSC (DLNA, 16:9, 720x406)
When scanning for flac-files must assigned profile transcoding "Music - FLAC - LPCM". Right-click in the list of music you can perform a test transcoding. File properties loaded ?

Do I do this from the All Music folder or the transcoding folder? I have over 5300 files and when I right click-select all-load file properties, it starts scanning and hangs! Maybe I should try not scanning so many?

When I select all and right click test transcoding I get a quick DOS like window pops up and disappears.

I changed to Sony TV NTSC (DLNA, 16:9, 720x406) and tried to play files on TV, once again "Music file can not be played".

Thanks,
Mark

1. Remove program with program data.
2. Install version 0.72, update to 0.73rc2.
3. Select a configuration "Sony TV NTSC (DLNA, 16:9, 720x406)"
4. Create a directory and copy 1 mp3-file and a 1 flac-file, add this directory to the directory of media resources.
5. In the list of music do the test transcoding for mp3-file on right click "mouse", if there are problems and they relate to temporary directory transcoded files, change directory transcoding files (Settings-Transcoder),
perform a test for transcoding mp3-file.
6. Perform a test transcoding for flac-file, if the execution is successful, check the playback on TV.

If not successful, upload the sample flac-file on file-sharing server (eg rapidshare.com)

Hi Eugene, here is a screen save of the mp3 transcode test:http://rapidshare.com/files/361618548/MP3Capture.PNG (hope I'm doing this right!) I think it says something about the tag being skipped and cannot handle unsynchronization. I assume this means it failed? Nothing about temp folder problem.

The .flac file test transcode, the window popped up briefly and disappeared...I assume this means it was successful? In any event, went to the TV, and damnit! Unable to play files!

Here is a link to the .flac file: http://rapidshare.com/files/361623454/0 ... .flac.html

Thanks for your help.

Sony PS3 to play this file with a profile transcoding "Music - FLAC - LPCM".
In the list of music on the right button mouse, check that for flac-file is specified profile transcoding, "Music - FLAC - LPCM".
After the test transcoding in the directory of temporary files to create a file with the extension s16be.
You can try to change the mime-type profile transcoding "Music - FLAC - LPCM" on

Code: Select all

audio/L16;rate=44100;channels=2

Settings-Transcoder-Profiles - "Music - FLAC - LPCM" - Edit - Mime-Type.

If the problem persists, you can transcode to mp3.
Settings-Transcoder-Transcoding file params-Music-choose extension mp3, mime-type: audio/mpeg
In the list of music on the right-button mouse to select the profile transcoding "Music (primary)"

Hi Eugene, changed device to PS3 1920x1080 and tried using Flac-LPCM profile, no luck. Switched transcode to mp3 with profile Music-Primary and it works! Plays both .flac and mp3 files.

Now my question is...do I load all my 5300+ files all at once? Does WMS go through the whole library and transcode everything or does it only transcode the one that is playing? Just afraid that throwing all those files at it at once will make it hang. Suggestions?
Thanks for your help.
