asus e35m1-i deluxe can't transcode mkv so it shows the subs

Hi,
I am building a media-center.
I have a asus E35M1-i deluxe motherboard with a integrated dual-core amd 1.6 zacate 18 w processor
Paying a original mkv is no problem. If i want to trans-code so i can use the subtitles the processor speeds up to 100% cpu use.
Maby the processor is not strong enough.
Will a external graphic pci card do the job?
Is there a setting that will show the subs without trans-coding the mkv so it will reduce cpu usage
