Image stutters.

Post by le_fez »

When showing M2TS files on my Sony TV i see the picture stuttering - espacially visible when
the camera pans or with scrolling text. Maybe a framerate issue?
WMS detecs it as 23.976 framerate movies, which i is. But during playback it looks
like it plays at a different rate and then has to "catch up" once a second or so..

If i burn the file and play it from mu Bluray player it runs smoothly.

Any idea where I should start looking for a solution?

I had this problem in the past. The best way to resolve is to tick the "Chunk Transfer mode" option.

You can test the frame rate as well, which means you can lower the frame rate option until the stuttering stops.

Another option is to also buffer whilst transcoding. I found 30 seconds to be the best.

No transcoding - we are talking M2TS files natively supported by my E5520 TV.
I have played around with the chunk transfer mode, but haven't noticed any change.
It looks like a framerate issue.

I have tried with lower bitrate MPEG files and they play without issues.
DVD ISO's are also played back flawlessly.
So M2TS / AVC files are the only ones I have seen this issue with, as long
as we are talking files that need not be transcoded.

Ok, I have tested several other DLNA server software over the weekend to test the M2TS / AVC issues and the result is the
same for all of them - small jerks every second, most visible when panning/scrolling.
Perhaps my TV is the culprit here :(

It doesn't matter if I connect the TV by cable to my
gigabit switch or through my wireless 54G bridge.
Exactly the same happens.

Thanks for trying, though :)
I still lean towards a framerate issue and I'll run some more tests
to see if I can find a way to make this work.

I have narrowed it down a bit - it only happens with 24p / 23.976 material.
perhaps the TV is unable to process it correctly?
The E5520 does have support for 24P - over HDMI at least, perhaps the DLNA client doesn't?

Anyone knows for sure that their Sony TV processes this material correctly?
